China Automotive Innovation Corporation(hereinafter referred to as "CAIC") was jointly established in 2020 by China FAW Group, Dongfeng Motor Corporation, China North Industries Group Corporation, Changan Automobile, and Nanjing Jiangning Economic Development Zone Technology, under the guidance of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Ministry of Science and Technology. Focusing on three major business areas: "common intelligent base, common energy base, and homologous new technology", the company conducts research and development of automotive foresight, commonality, platforms, core technologies, and products, as well as industrial incubation.

As an extension and innovation entity of three central automobile enterprises in the fields of foresight, commonality, and core technology research and development, China Automotive Innovation and Intelligence (CAIC) holds the development vision of "developing green, low-carbon, intelligent, safe, and ultimate experience automotive technologies to empower wonderful travel and a better life". With the mission of being a leader in technological innovation, a practitioner in industrial incubation, a driver of data services, and a guardian of automotive safety, CAIC is committed to building a technology-leading and industry-guiding scientific and technological innovation platform and industrial incubation base, aiming to become a pioneer in promoting technological self-reliance and self-improvement in China's automotive industry and achieving high-quality development.

The establishment of China Automotive Innovation and Development Corporation (CAIC) represents a pivotal exploration by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) to expedite the structural adjustment of central enterprises and vigorously develop strategic emerging industries. It also signifies a crucial step towards achieving collaborative innovation and development. Facing new technologies, new models, and new requirements, CAIC will actively promote the innovative development of China's automotive industry, making positive contributions to national strategies such as becoming a powerful manufacturing nation, a leading technological nation, and an automotive powerhouse.

Foundation History
After nearly 2 years of planning, the Company was officially established and put into operation on June 2, 2020, thanks to the careful guidance and thorough promotion of the State Council's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China (MIIT), and the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China.
The CAIC establishment and base project kick-off event was held grandly on June 29, 2020, in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. Hao Peng, Director of State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, Miao Wei, Minister of MIIT, and Wang Xi, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, also spoke at the ceremony. Lou Qinjian, Secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee, and Wu Zhenglong, Governor of Jiangsu Province, jointly unveiled the board.
